Home Again - Life Goes On

One of the hardest parts of having animals is losing them. No matter how long they live with us they leave a big hole in our hearts. Shortly before I left to go home I was told that we had lost Tank one of the two Queensland Heelers that we are supposed to be only “fostering “. He had congestive heart failure.

And then not long after I got home we lost Redman one of the two miniature dachshunds we rescued about three years ago. He had prostate cancer.

Even though we knew we would lose them both to their diseases it’s still hard when their time comes.

Holiday Races

I always enjoy races during the holiday season they have such a fun atmosphere. I was out of town for some I usually run but did get to do the Turkey Trot in Modesto. It was a beautiful day and there was a big turnout.

The next three races were all Christmas themed. The first one I did in Hanford with Dale Williams (Valerio) a former athlete. I spent the night with him at his home in Visalia and we had a good time catching up.

I did the Spirit of Giving in Modesto next where I caught up with a running friend, Don Harris. Don has been struggling with health issues for a while now and said this might be his last race unless his health improves. I hope it does.

My final Christmas race was actually two races at the San Juan Bautista Double Road Race. It was only my second Double this year. I was surprised at how small the turnout was and I wonder about the future of Double Racing. Bob Anderson, Runners World and Double Toad Racing founder and I had a good visit talking about many of the runners of our generation that we both knew.

Once again it took forever for results to be ready for awards. I think if he’s going to continue the racing series he’s going to have to tighten up the schedule.
