I arrived on Friday the 4th and we decided to go to a Mexican restaurant in Cottage Grove that night instead of the 5th because I had a race Sunday the 6th and wanted to eat somewhat sensibly.
The next day I did something every time I go to Eugene, took a run on Pre’s Trail. It’s always a beautiful place to run and the baby geese made it even more special this time. That night I had Mexican again After all it was Cinco de Mayo and I could eat Mexican 365. I stayed with chicken figuring it would be easier to digest.
Sunday was race day. When I got the call to go to Oregon the first thing I did was look for a 5K Brandy and I could do but the only race I could find that was reasonably close was a half marathon in Salem. I decided to “bite the bullet” and do my half as a 69 year old since I had done at least one every year of my 60’s. Not a bright move! 😳 I wasn’t ready for a half but “it is what it is” and it’s in the books. It was a nice course and a very nice post race spread. My 58th and last half in my 60’s. Will there be any in my 70’s? Who knows.
On Monday Smitty and I took of to stay at his friends place in Florence on the coast. Good food and good conversation as well as some time at the beach. On Tuesday I got out and ran around Florence and then we went to the other side of the river and hiked in the dunes and on the beach. Then went back to go to a birthday party with Denise at a pizza place.
